Unbaited underwater video for observing and monitoring fish communities and habitats in temperate and coral reef ecosystems

This video clip presents the unbaited autonomous video techniques STAVIRO and MICADO. They were developped by Ifremer in collaboration with IRD. They have been tested extensively in New Caledonia, in the Indian Ocean and in the Mediterranean. The methodoloy was standardized from data acquisition to assessment and was used to assess the ecological status of fish and habitats in most Marine Protected Areas in New Caledonia during the AMBIO project (2012-2016). It is now also used in other regions of the world including in the NorthEast Atlantic.
