This dataset includes “theoretical closures of Great Scallop fishing areas” from 2012 to 2019. For each fishing area, the number and duration of closures have been estimated through an algorithm applied to the dataset from the French monitoring network REPHYTOX and information related to the monitoring and the management of the Great Scallop fishery in the Eastern English Channel. This dataset has been produced within the framework of the FCE Interreg S3-EUROHAB project which deals with the detection of Harmful Algal Bloom events (HABs) based on satellite products and the assessment of their impacts in the French-English Channel. This project is coordinated by the Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) and involves eight partners from France and England, including IFREMER and the University of Brest. The methodology of the estimation of closures consists in integrating results on phycotoxins monitoring (lipophilic toxins, PSP toxins, ASP toxins), fishing season data, and regulations regarding closures. These data only cover closures related to sanitary threshold exceedances of phycotoxins in shellfish. Closures caused by the absence of sampling are not included in the dataset because of the lack of available data. This dataset can be used to assess the impacts of harmful algal blooms on scallop fisheries, but the algorithm can be applied to other species, other areas, and other economic activities. More information on the different treatments carried out and the description of each field of the dataset table are available in the pdf document ''Methodology for the estimation of scallop production areas closures in the Eastern Channel'' attached to this data.
